Kinetic Sculpture
Oklahoma City, OK

It’s all about movement.

Design engineering for a 20’ long three-ring fixture consisting of suspended polycarbonate panels. Equipped with a gearing system so that each ring could rotate independently. The concept was designed by Bockus Payne Architects, and the sculpture resides in a triple-height atrium for the academic office tower in the OU Health Sciences center.

The kinetic sculpture project was one of my first professional projects out of undergrad. My employer Artform created signage and custom architectural components.

My job was to finish figuring out how to construct this idea that the architect had given us. beginning with a preliminary revit model, securing the panels to the rods, finalizing the rolling tracks, calculating the weight of the sculpture to hand off to structural, and lighting were part of my responsibility.

The fabrication shop was a great resource for bouncing ideas while trying to finalize, and having the ability to prototype as the design process went along was very helpful.
